Toga Creative Co-Founder: Ben Thomas
As an educator, Ben is the Program Leader of Music at BN1 Arts Brighton, a Senior Lecturer at BIMM University, and a sought after private drum tutor and career mentor. Ben has been teaching professional since the age 18 previously working for East Sussex Music Service running various rock school, samba and band projects. Ben has delivered masterclasses, clinics and events across the UK such as the UK Drum Show, London Drum Show, The Drummers Odyssey Camp, and Freddie Gee Drum Academy. Together with over 15 years teaching experience, Ben is also a qualified teacher with a PG Cert qualification in Learning and Teaching.
As a player, Ben has been Rag N Bone Man’s drummer since 2013 and has played with artists including Dua Lipa, Robyn Ottolini, Noble Jacks, amongst numerous others. He’s played on various TV and radio shows including the Brits, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, James Cordon, The Graham Norton Show, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and he’s played multiple headline tours, taking in major festivals like including Glastonbury, Montreux Jazz Festival, Reading and Leeds, Radio 1 Big Weekend, Rock am Ring, Rock im Park, Fuji Rock, Splendour in the Grass, Capital Ball, Ibiza Rocks, and various stadiums, arenas and academies all over the world.
Toga Creative Co-Founder: Pat Garvey
As an educator, Pat is Head of Drums/Principal Lecturer at BIMM University in the UK, works internationally as a demonstrator/clinician, lectures in popular music history and personal and professional development and runs a successful 1:1 private teaching and mentoring practice. He’s written over 300 educational articles for various industry and educational magazines/ webzines including iDrum Magazine and the iconic Rhythm Magazine, consulted on course design, led on module and assessment writing, and his own play-along book ‘LAWLESS’ was published in 2015. Pat has performed masterclasses and facilitated educational events all over the world and as well as his extensive professional experience also holds a masters degree and PGCert qualifications in Learning and Teaching.
As a player, Pat is drummer in the legendary Ozric Tentacles and has played with a diverse range of artists over a long career as a professional musician, including The David Cross Band (King Crimson), The Prototypes, prog overlords Lonely Robot, Noel Redding (Jimi Hendrix), JAMES, David Jackson (Van Der Graaf Generator), Tim Booth, Freddie V (Average White Band), Lewis Stephens (Freddie King), and Fischer-Z amongst numerous others. He also plays with renowned blues guitarist Danny Giles, is a multi-instrumentalist, an artist in his own right, and has written and produced music for brands like Range Rover, Santander, and Jamie Oliver. He also worked on the iconic Cadbury Gorilla advert.
